“………………..remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He Himself said,
‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ ”
Acts 20:35
The Bible has a lot to say about money – how God takes care of our needs, how to responsibly handle our finances, and why, how and when to give of what God has blessed us with.
A principle of giving throughout the Bible is the tithe – giving the first 10% of our income to provide for the ministries of the local church. Giving to other ministries such as missions organizations or other para-church ministries is giving offerings above the tithe.
Giving to God is an act of obedience but is also a privilege – an opportunity to participate in the building of God’s Kingdom meeting needs of the broken and hurting and facilitating and providing for ministries that spread the Gospel in our local cities and around the world. Through our giving, we “become fellow workers for the truth.” 3 John 8
